कबरी भये चामरी गिरि कन्दरे, मुख भये चान्द अकासे॥ हरिनि नयन भये स्वर भये कोकिल, गति-भये गज वनवासे॥

नयन-कमल पर युगल भुजगवर काजर गरल उगारि, मदन-धन्वन्तरि आपे जबे आओब से विष तबहु न सारि॥

चिन्हारे अहाँ छी विरजिचि-प्रपौत्रे, कुकर्म्मी अहाँ छी करै छी की श्रौत्रे॥ गिरीशार्च्यना छोडि ई की करै छी, परस्त्री अहाँ छद्म सौं की हरै छी॥

अगड़ाही लगौ बरू बज्र खसौ एहेन जाति पर बरू धसना धसौ भूकम्प हौक बरू फटौ धरती माँ मिथिला रहिये के की करती॥

The area is characterized by a variety of distinctive genres of traditional music, such as Maithili Lok Geet, Jhumar, and Jhijhiya. These songs are often accompanied by traditional musical instruments, such as the dhol, shehnai, and harmonium.

The Mithila culture has a strong foundation in Hinduism, and the area is abundant with old temples and shrines. One notable example is the Janaki Temple in Janakpur, Nepal, which is specifically devoted to the deity Sita. Sita, as per Hindu mythology, originated from Mithila and entered into matrimony with Lord Rama, the protagonist of the epic Ramayana. It has presumably been assumed that Mata Sita belongs to Sitamarhi, one of the districts of Mithila region.

Another well-liked culinary option is the litti-chokha, a delectable meal prepared by roasting gram flour and filling it with sattu (roasted gram flour).
